Erdogan met with the artists: The development push that is not crowned with culture and art consists only of concrete and metal

Expressing his gratitude to the artists for their contributions to the country’s culture and art, Erdoğan said that one of the most important elements of the concept called civilization, which is not even easy to describe, is culture and art.

Erdoğan pointed out that the difference that distinguishes societies from each other on the path of development and best reveals their original aspects are the culture-art products that span a wide range from architecture to music, Erdoğan said:

Therefore, cultural workers and artists are the engines of civilization, enabling societies to create their own colors and, moreover, to take them out into the world. Although developments in the field of technology are the common property of humanity without imparting color, cultural and artistic products carry their own unique messages wherever they touch. “Does civilization make man, or does man make civilization?” The question is shaped on the common denominator of man, and in fact gives its own answer. Our artists have such a great mission and such an important responsibility beyond the branch of art they practice. In essence, the artist is the mirror of society. The accumulation, pleasure, problems and imagination of society shape and direct the artist. Turkey has paid one of the highest prices for the ability to completely detach itself from its past, which marked a time, in the field of culture and art. No matter how much soil you throw on the embers, if the yeast is strong, it will continue to burn inside. Our nation was able to overcome this destructive and dry period by protecting its art, artists and cultural products, creating its own style and synthesis. On this occasion, we commemorate with condolences and mercy all our artists who have earned the title “Old Masters” with their works in all areas of art, especially in music. We wish success to our artists who proudly carry the flag they received.

“One of the most important tasks in building a great and powerful Turkey now falls to our artists”

Erdoğan explained that they closely follow the products that young people create by combining their centuries-old knowledge with modern interpretations in everything from traditional art to music, and expressed pride in the artists who present these works to the taste of all humanity, together with the Turkish people, using the opportunities that the Internet and social media offer.

Stressing that he believes no work of art inspired by this country, this nation, this civilization will fail, President Erdoğan continued:

We have always stood by our artists with our support. We will continue to get involved. We protect our artists’ efforts with the support we provide under many different titles, from the fight against piracy to copyright, from theater to cinema. Finally, we opened the new building of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Ankara and the Ataturk Cultural Center in Istanbul, and brought world-class arts centers to our country. One of the most important tasks in building a great and powerful Turkey now falls to our artists. A step in development that is not crowned by culture and art will only consist of stone, concrete, iron, glass and metal. However, we are striving for a revival of civilization, not just a bleak step in development. We hope to achieve this together with you.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ended his speech by thanking all the performers for attending the fast-breaking performance.
