Ahmet Muhsin Tüzer, who played rock music and gave concerts as an imam, was fired from his job. Tüzer applied to the ECtHR to return to her profession.
Ahmet Muhsin Tüzer (51), who founded the music group “FiRock” in 2013 with Doğan Sakin, the guitarist of the Kramp group, in the Pınarbaşı district of the Kaş district of Antalya, combined rock and mystical music.
Tüzer, who attracted the attention of national and international media with her concert in the district, gave various concerts both in Turkey and in the USA.
According to DHA’s report, Tüzer also released her first international album through a music company in New York.
Ahmet Muhsin Tüzer, who was known as “rock imam” during his tenure and was fired for not being able to get permission for the concert, was hired as an official in Balıkesir.
fired from the job
Tüzer, who returned to his ministry with a court order but was dismissed from the profession in August 2018 following the decision of the Appeals and Resettlement Committee of the Directorate of Religious Affairs following the investigation opened against him, filed a complaint with the 4th Administration of Antalya a court for the suspension of the execution of the dismissal decision.
The competent court rejected the request for a stay of execution.
The court deliberating on the merits of annulment of the termination action filed by Tüzer decided to dismiss the action. The 9-page reasoned decision was sent to Tüzer.
After his application was rejected by the Konya Regional Administrative Court, Tüzer turned to the State Council. The 12th Chamber of the State Council dismissed the appeal on February 17, 2021.
Received a refusal from the Constitutional Court, applied to the ECtHR
After the Council of State announced the rejection decision on October 5, 2021, Tüzer turned to the Constitutional Court (AYM) on November 4 and claimed that the right to a fair trial and freedom of expression were being violated.
On February 11, members of the Constitutional Court ruled that the allegations of violating the right to a fair trial and freedom of expression for exceeding the 30-day filing deadline were inadmissible and the costs of the proceedings should be left to the applicant.
Tüzer then filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) through her lawyer.

“The only authority we could turn to was the European Court of Human Rights”
In a statement following the decision, lawyer Mücteba Akkale said that dismissing Tüzer violated freedom of thought because of some of her alleged statements. “The Constitutional Court also rejected my timely application on the grounds that it had not been submitted within the time limit. After that, we could only turn to the European Court of Human Rights. Unfortunately we had to apply. The heart wants; Our illegality will go before our courts, but it didn’t happen. We sent our petition and it reached the court and the process began. I believe that my client’s illegality will be cleared up.” called.
“I am satisfied with what I have achieved as Imam”
Ahmet Muhsin Tüzer, on the other hand, stated that it was difficult for him to assert his rights as a Turkish citizen before the European Court of Human Rights and that he worked as an imam from 1990 to 2018, saying:
“While making rock music, I helped promote our country and our religion. I got attention in the international media. I gave 8 concerts in Turkey and 3 concerts abroad. I am satisfied with what I have achieved as Imam. In 2018 I was complained that the mufti didn’t give me permission to go to the concert. Because of this, I was fired from my job. Unfortunately, there was no positive decision about me from Turkish courts. I was very annoyed that the Federal Constitutional Court presented the statute of limitations as a rejection notice. We applied to the ECtHR through my lawyer. I sincerely believe that the decision will be positive. I look forward to the days when I will return to my job as an imam, which I love very much and which is a tool for me to do great service. I have forgiven those who caused my expulsion.”
