Goodbye, what is he saying? Topic, main idea, summary

… In the new order, we would go to Akbaş Pier in five days and from there take the ferry to Anatolia.

… I must face the enemy in the trench. Because I want to collide, wrestle. Make me understand what I am, as well as the enemy…

… maydos [Eceabat]… What a sad sight this small and enchanting town presented now. Almost all buildings were destroyed by enemy bullets and burned down.

… The evening prayer was performed next to me. I listened in awe. There was such a pleasing harmony in those devout voices… Wisdom – I divine, listening to it it’s like cold water rushing into my heart.

…As we climbed the slope parallel to the valley, we noticed a couple of new graves on the left. Most of them had no markings. Some had branches, two or three had broken boards.

…I think now. If I’m a martyr, will I be buried under a few bare trees with such pale leaves and left?

…We have entered the battle. Millions of guns and rifles explode… Now my first corporal is wounded.

Goodbye…

Goodbye Quotes – Song Lyrics

  • How helpless is the poor country.
  • Ah, the bitterness of this life, this Hijran!…
  • The still bluish waters of the Bosphorus made such deep and sad ruptures in my soul…
  • How many loved ones I had left behind whom I had promised to protect. You have secured my honor and courage.
  • It’s been months since my heart was on fire. In addition, it burned so much that my whole body had been melting under the influence of this fire for a long time.
  • How did my weak and powerless body, this thin and fragile heart endure this separation and the pain of separation?
  • Ah what a sweet record this sunset is. There I find a sweetness who feeds my feelings and caresses my heart with the affection of a lover.
  • I think now If I’m a martyr, will I be buried under some bare trees with leaves so pale and left? But how merciless and how devastating it was.
  • O people, how long will you give martyrs, and show your martyrs with weeping eyes?…
  • Oh great Istanbul, who knows how many hearts you have conquered. And so far away and apart from you you make these hearts weep.
  • I am sitting on my bed. I have my notebook with me and I think about what will become of us.
  • The evil here is not working on time. Not the evil, but the heavy and catastrophic end.
  • …Ah, the pains of this life, this Hijran! …
  • I ate bread with ayran, tea.
  • Now the chronic wound in my heart was punctured and bleeding again. And this blood is such a fiery tide that leaves a burning trail in me!

Goodbye Review – Personal Comments

Goodbye Goodbye The diary of İbrahim Naci Efendi, a young Ottoman officer aged only 21, which he wrote during WWI on the Çanakkale front and was only able to write 29 days. İbrahim Naci Efendi is approaching martyrdom with his dreams and hopes. What he fears most is neither death nor injury nor war, he only fears oblivion. It would have almost fallen into oblivion were it not for his relatives who kept and kept the diary, and Seyit Ahmet Sılay who compiled it and prepared it for publication. No matter how you look at it, Lieutenant İbrahim Naci Efendi is a patriot and a very emotional and sensitive young man. “…I must face the enemy in the trench. Because I want to fight, wrestle. Both myself and the enemy…” “…We are in battle. Millions of guns and rifles explode… Now my first corporal is wounded.’ And he will have been born into the thought that he will be a martyr, on the last page he says, “We ask permission of Allah” and he will be a martyr in the battle they are engaged in. Do not forget …. (Ahmet Emre Cicek)

“Goodbye” is the diary of a soldier in the Battle of Çanakkale… I saw this work for the first time in the review book “Conversation with Books 2” by my teacher Oğuzhan Saygılı. I added it to my list that day, was lucky to read it. I was so impressed by the note written by Martyr Lieutenant İbrahim Naci at the beginning of the diary that if he hadn’t written anything else, this note would have sufficed… “What is this note?” If you say so, he wrote the address of İbrahim Naci’s family and wrote a note underneath: “Whoever gets this notebook, let it be sent to the above address for a martyr…”. (May Allah be pleased with the person who brought it.) He made notes in his notebook for twenty-nine days whenever he had the opportunity. After his martyrdom, his commander Bedri Efendi continued the diary, and when he was martyred, the last signature read “Imam Mustafa Memduh and Clerk M. Atıf”. He wrote down everything that went through his mind, from the food he ate to his hopes and unfulfilled loves. He also spoke about his fears, asking himself, “Am I afraid of death?” Proverb. No, it’s not death, but the unknown that didn’t go away without firing a bullet at the enemy that frightened them… And to be forgotten, who wouldn’t be afraid of being forgotten… İbrahim Naci thought of naming this notebook as “Remembrance of the General’s War and the Battle of Gallipoli”. On the twenty-ninth day, he finished his sentence by saying “Goodbye,” as if feeling like he was becoming a martyr. Seyit Ahmet Sılay, who prepared the book, thought this name would be appropriate. May Allah be pleased with everyone who contributed and helped us to reach the book…Selcen Ece)

A book that has had a huge impact on me. It is a book that reflects the feelings of a lieutenant martyred on the Çanakkale front, telling me once again that no matter how much we pray for them, we will never be able to match their efforts repay. The fact that the lieutenant who wrote the diary and the captain who broke the news of the martyrdom were martyred before I could continue by putting a comma in his sentence almost doubled my sadness. I strongly recommend you read it. We owe a lot to these people. Thank you to everyone who made the diary available to us. Good luck with your spirit. (Nurullah Cetinkaya)
