The famous rocker Arno with a hoarse voice and unruly hair died of cancer

Belgian national icon Arnold Hintjens, nicknamed Arno, has died at the age of 72.

Arno was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February 2020.

The singer’s Belgian manager, Filip De Groote, announced the sad news. “We will all miss him but he will always be in our hearts thanks to his music which kept him alive to the end,” she said in a statement.

Arno was born on May 21, 1949 in the Flemish coastal butchery Ostend and joined the TC Matic group in the 1980s.

However, he became famous for his solo work. He became widely known with his song “Les Yeux de ma mere”.

“He was a great singer and poet. It was a national monument for Belgium,” said Boris Vedel, director of the Printemps de Bourges music festival.

Arno was received at the royal court by King Philippe of Belgium last February.

Also Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo tweeted “rest in peace Arno” for Arno.

It is well known that Arno, who is very reserved about his private life, reflects in his songs the longing for his mother, who died early.

In an interview with France 24, Arno said: “I had a wonderful life. Thanks to music I have traveled all over the world, enjoyed it. I will take this happiness with me, thank you life.”

Among Arno’s most famous songs is “Oh la la la!” “Je ne veux pas etre grande”, “Come to Ostend”; “Mon Sissoyen” can be considered as “Give me the gift”.
