Metropolitan serves book lovers with 115,000 books

Kayseri is an important educational city with its universities and student potential. Chaired by Memduh Büyükkılıç, the Metropolitan Municipality conducting studies to create a city of libraries serves thousands of book lovers, especially young people, with its 8 libraries working in their body.

The Mayor of the Kayseri Metropolitan Region, Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç stated that they are striving to make Kayseri Ancient City, the city of scholars with a deep-rooted history, and the city of libraries with its 5 universities and over 80,000 university students, saying: “With our libraries, the worthy of this beautiful city, we wish to serve our fellow book-loving citizens and our descendants who are devoted to education and learning. We’re working on it,” he said.

Emphasizing that they bring book lovers together with thousands of books, Mayor Büyükkılıç said, “We have created comfortable environments that both contribute to our students’ educational lives and enable them to engage with books. With the Children’s Library and Music School, which will be our ninth library under construction and soon to be operational, we will get our little ones used to reading books from an early age and we will be one step closer to our goal, our to make the old city a city of libraries.”

Büyükkılıç also recalled that April 23 was declared “World Book Day” by UNESCO and pointed out the importance of reading and celebrating World Book Day for all bookworms.

Metropolitan Municipality, which has 8 libraries affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Social Affairs, 29,000 982 in the Central Public Library with a capacity of 1,000 people, 11,000 939 in the Gevher Nesibe Public Library with a capacity of 200 people, 12,000 in the Sezai Karakoç Library with a capacity of 300. It offers 26,762 printed books in the city library with a capacity of 529,300 people for the benefit of book lovers. The Metropolitan Municipality also provides services with 12,000 printed books in the 400-seat Beyazşehir Public Library, 6,000 in the 250-seat Ziya Gökalp District Library, 6,000 in the 200-seat Argıncık District Library and 10,000 in the 300-seat Mevlana Library Persons.

In addition to 115,000 212 printed works in the Metropolitan Municipality’s libraries, 22,000 electronic and 3,000 audiobooks and 100 magazines are among the resources that book lovers benefit from.


In 2021, 37,721 members became members of Kayseri Municipality Libraries, which attracted great attention especially among young people, and the total number of members was 188,594. Also in 2021, 881,443 people benefited from the library, while 283,750 books were borrowed by book lovers in the same year.


The Kayseri Municipality, which attaches particular importance to education, culture and arts, protects the historical and cultural heritage of the city with 182 cultural books registered with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the General Directorate of Libraries and Publications while providing the opportunity to do so pass on to future generations.

Metropolitan Municipality Cultural Publications consists of important works such as 5-volume Kayseri Encyclopedia which also includes books for children, 2-volume Seljuk Civilization Museum, 3-volume Develi Seyrani Symposium, 3-volume Kayseri Immovable Cultural Heritage and 28 Books in Bir Nefest Kayseri. Kayseri Cultural Road Travel Guide and Kayseri Travel Guide, the city guides among the cultural publications, have been put into operation in English and Turkish. The six-monthly magazines Thinking Şehir and Şehir Culture and Art Magazines, which are published every two months, are encountered by readers as periodicals of cultural publications.
